Washington Convention and Sports Authority
The Washington Convention and Sports Authority (WCSA) is an organization based in Washington, D.C. which owns the D.C. Armory, Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and Nationals Park.〔http://www.dcsec.com/about/〕 The WCSA is governed by a board of directors consisting of nine appointees by the Mayor of Washington, D.C. and two ex-officio members.〔http://www.dcconvention.com/AboutUs/TheAuthority.aspx〕
The WSCA was formed on October 1, 2009 following the merger of the Washington Convention Center Authority (WCCA) and the D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission (DCSEC).〔(WSCA Press release )〕 The plan was announced by D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty as a 2010 budget proposal in March 2009.〔("Sports Commission, Convention Center Authority to merge" ), ''The Washington Times'', Tim Lemke; March 23, 2009.〕
In December 2009, the WCSA came under fire for quoting a usage fee of $77,000 to a nonprofit organization, Remote Area Medical, who wished to use the D.C. Armory to host free health clinics.〔("Group planning free health clinics objects to D.C.'s $77,000 fee" ), ''The Washington Post'', Henri E. Cauvin; December 12, 2009.〕
